Get Woke: A Realist's Guide to Living an Awakened Life.
What is this whole awakened life thing about? It's literally the key to freedom, love and self-actualization. If you're ready to take the first step, you've come to the right place.
Step 1: Admitting that you are asleep at the wheel.
In this context ‘the wheel’ = Life.
The whole idea of Transforming Your World, is truly, all about you.
So, what does it really mean to ‘Get Woke’… I suppose I really only know how to explain that from going through it.
The scene of the crime: Circa 2007-2012
If you were to tell me then, what I deeply know now – I’d have told you right where to put it. I explain a little bit more of how I approached speaking my truth in my Podcast, Episode 1: The Birth of Essenza.
In short, I cloaked my communication with anger, and daggers.
I will hurt you before you hurt me, and oh by the way – I know it all and you suck. Sounds extreme, I know – but throughout it all, I always felt deep compassion for people. I wanted to do the right thing but I was extremely insecure (See also: in denial about that insecurity – Ego:1 Lauren:0 ).
What do deeply insecure or wounded warriors do? Project and overcompensate.
Insight: Do you know anyone like that? Shift your perspective on what may have gotten them to that point. Is that person you? Let your gut answer that one, not your mind.
Step 2: What you are seeking is seeking you (RUMI)
I was always drawn to that statement (ironic, I know) but now I really understand what it means.
How’s it working out for you? One theme that keeps coming up in my life in a variety of conversations is intent vs. impact. In your mind, you may have a super strong egoic filter of ‘good intentions’ but, real talk – if those intentions don’t translate into the desired IMPACT… then something is up with your actions.
Personally, I am not here to tell anyone what to do or not to do, I only pose the question – how’s that workin’ out for ya?
Is life happening ‘to you’ or are you creating the experiences you truly desire? You’re literally the only one that can answer that question. I invite you to take a look around you. The people, the places, the circumstances – ALL of it is simply aligning with your thoughts, your actions and your deepest intentions.
Authenticity, in its purest form – is exactly that - pure. It may start out as raw and uncut, but it’s never not under the surface. When we build layers and layers of pain, negative thoughts, stories from our past we become disconnected from our core being – it’s literally a façade. And what do we show to the world? That façade. Feelings of shame and inadequacy begin to deepen - enter: duality.
I invite you to really let these words sink in.
Step 3: Show up
If you’re asleep at the wheel, even acknowledging that you are, gets you woke. That’s the tricky thing about awareness, when we shift our perspective – it’s not a super complicated thing – it just is. It’s real, it’s honest, it doesn’t make things everyone else’s fault. It’s a breath of fresh air in our lives.
If ANY of the above sounds like something you want to explore, then it’s time. In the coming days, weeks, months – pay attention to your thoughts, your intentions vs. your impact, and don’t lose the opportunity to live an awakened life.
I literally have gratitude every morning for the running water I have in my shower. At one point in my life, I didn’t realize I was taking a shower. Going through the motions, yes, but thinking the entire time about ANYTHING else kept me from appreciating the beauty and gifts around me.
Stay present, attune to your surroundings and keep asking yourself – HOW AM I SHOWING UP?
I’m glad you’re on this journey with me. In fact, the divide we feel sometimes as humans on this planet is literally all based in the same fears, the same self-judgment. With all our unique differences, we are all fundamentally the same – an ocean of pure consciousness, poured into life form.
